About Weducation, Inc.

Revealing Science is part of Weducation, Inc. , which is a not-for- profit corporation whose mission is to serve to educate all levels of the public and private sector in order to further the development of science, technology, and the environment. Various methodologies, tactics, strategies, products, and services will be offered to further these goals ; especially those teaching and developmental tools associated with the atmospheric, earth, environmental, and oceanographic sciences. We will not be limited to these however, since one of the goals of the organization is to stress and show by example; that science is increasingly multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary in nature.

The organization will also foster and aid in the development of science, technology, and the environment: by advancing the theory and practice of the sciences, by encouraging as well as conducting research, tests, and other original work, and by offering awards and other honors in the recognition of meritorious contributions to the sciences.

Weducation, Inc. understands and appreciates the importance of science and technology in our daily lives. We also recognize the positive economic impact that science, technology, and a healthy environment can have on a community. Therefore, we will strive to develop, illustrate, and promote these links for the betterment of our society.

What we are doing now and our future plans?

Weducation believes that education and learning doesn't have to be drudgery and something to fear but can be made enjoyable and transparent. Therefore, we intend to conduct a variety of contests, competitions, and other fun learning experiences.

One of the first contests and fun learning experiences we have offered is our Annual National Weather Forecasting and Earth Science Contest. The competition was first made available to schools during the spring semester of 2003. It has become a huge success. The contest is used as a vehicle to teach earth science using mainly an inquiry based methodology and earth systems science approach. It started with 6 to 8 schools in the snow belt of Central New York. This innovative way of learning was an instant hit with both students and teachers. Without prompting from us, teachers began to recommend the contest to their colleagues and as a result the contest rapidly spread throughout the rest of the state.

Only a short time after the contest became available to all schools in New York State, Weducation started to field inquires from schools in other states asking if they could participate. After 4 very successful years in New York State the contest became available nationwide. In 2007, our first year going national, we had schools competing from Puerto Rico all the way to the state of Washington. The contest continued to grow . We had 180 participants for the 2008 contest.

In 2009 we wanted to limit the number of participants, as we introduced the National Tournament phase of the contest, but still had about 140 participate in the contest. The preliminary rounds were used to qualify teams for a one week Tournament to crown the National Champion. The championship week allowed us to incorporate many additional challenges for the teams. We had previously beta and field tested these concepts for years prior to their introduction. After a year of experience with the Tournament format we are looking forward to another great contest in 2010. Next year we also hope that everybody will follow the tournament in real time via our web site Click here to access the 2009 press release, learn more about the contest, and how your school can participate.

Those teaching Earth Science / Environmental Science or if you just have an interest in the green revolution will find this collection of environmental news helpful They represent a wide range of informative articles and press releases from the originating institutions and organizations unfiltered by the media.

In 2008, we developed and had the first annual Utica Rome Green Expo. The EXPO is part of the Green Local 175TM an educational and economic development campaign to foster and promote green initiatives, projects, and businesses within a 175 mile radius of Utica- Rome, New York. There will also be a large K-12 component incorporated into this EXPO. Teachers and their students are invited to become actively involved. Monies raised from the EXPO will help to stimulate environmentally themed projects and contests within the schools in our region. Go to the Utica Rome Green Expo  to learn more.

Representatives from Weducation will be giving presentations in the schools and throughout the community. Literature promoting the organization and our mission will be distributed. We plan on using existing forms of communications such as distance learning facilities, but hope to be on the cutting edge of technology as well by using the internet and webcasting to further our goals.

Opportunities

Although we have a group of highly qualified individuals comprising our board of directors, we are always looking for exceptional professionals who may want to be involved in building Weducation, Inc. up from the ground floor. Suffice to say that past board members come from both the private and public sector and include such expertise as an administrator for a large school district, university personnel, and active earth science teachers. Currently, there are no spots available on the board but we do keep a list of interested applicants. We encourage any interested US scientist, engineer, educator, or other applicable professional to contact our Founder, Richard Morris about the possibility of joining this project.

A great way for anyone to participate and make an impact with Weducation is by being a member of our Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will work with the Board of Directors( in an ex-officio capacity) in order for that body to more effectively meet the needs of those it serves. The Board of Directors and the members of the Advisory Board will work hand in hand for the betterment of those we serve. Those interested in becoming members of our Advisory Board are also encouraged to contact Richard Morris. We are actively seeking new people to round out our advisory board.

Lastly, we're always looking for feedback from you; especially the teachers out there! Weducation, Inc. will always strive to be a grassroots organization and therefore encourages and desires active participation from those it aims to serve. The creation of educational materials will not be a top down process. We intend to get participants actively involved right from the ground floor through to the completion of a project. The organization will be purposely be kept small to avoid the pitfalls of others that let beauracracy get in the way of action. Therefore, your input is critical to help us separate the wheat from the chaff in order to pursue the most needed and relevant projects . Please pass along your needs, wants, hopes, & fears in terms of improving the educational system. Let us know how we can assist you and your students in this climate of ever increasing standards.

We'd be delighted to take questions and comments from teachers and other interested individuals contact us
